Tipwreck Trail
Experience and explore the majestic, shipwrecked coastline of the Southernmost tip of Africa, on foot!
Come and join us on a 5-day, 4-night, 60km slack-pack hiking adventure along the shores of the shipwrecked Indian Ocean, where a total of 150 shipwrecks have been discovered over the past 100 years, in a relatively small area sandwiched between Gansbaai and Arniston.
The oldest of these discoveries is The Brederode, owned by the Dutch East India Company, which sank in 1785 on her return voyage from China and Indonesia, carrying a cargo of porcelain, tin, spices, tea, satin and gold. Eighty crew members made it to the shore, and 12 unfortunately went down with the ship.
Come and share in some history, discoveries, fables and stories- all whilst hiking on some of the most pristine beaches this country has on offer.
The 60km Tipwreck Trail, meandering an untouched rocky and mostly sandy coastline, starts at the Southernmost tip of Africa, at Cape Agulhas, and ends in the quaint fishing village of Arniston.
Guests will be accommodated for three nights at the Agulhas Rest Camp in the Agulhas National Park and one night in Arniston, at the Arniston Beach Cottages,
Cape Agulhas is easily accessible from anywhere in South Africa and is situated approximately 250km from Cape Town.
Guests who wish to travel with the Silent Steps shuttle from Cape Town International Airport to Cape Agulhas and back, are welcome to book the shuttle service at an additional cost of R1000 per person return.
If you are looking for a hike that is not too challenging, that is breathtakingly beautiful, loaded with information and history, well-structured and well organised, where you overnight in 3-star accommodation and treated like royalty by the Silent Steps crew, then this is the hike for you!
