The Wilderness Walk is fast becoming the most popular route we have on offer in South Africa. Our groups on the Wilderness Walk are small – between 12-20 hikers. This way we are able to keep the hike exclusive, as our experience shows that many individuals prefer to participate in a smaller group.

David and Susan Pfaff, the owners of the lovely Wilderness Bushcamp, overlooking the Wilderness Village, initiated this hike. Some years back Silent Steps were called upon to partner with Wilderness Bushcamp in exploring the merits of a multi-day slack-pack hiking route in the nearby region.  

Wilderness is a seaside town along the Garden Route in the Southern Cape of South Africa and known for its long white sandy beach and lagoons.  Wilderness is situated a short distance east of the city of George, on the N2 near the Kaaimans River Pass. The town caters mostly to holiday-makers and is situated directly on the Touws River Lagoon.

Wilderness experiences a mild climate, typical of the Garden Route, and has little temperature variation, seldom dropping below 10 °C or above 28 °C, with year-round rainfall. The flora type is Afromontane gallery forest.

For the duration of the hike we will stay at the beautiful Wilderness Bushcamp, with spectacular views of the ocean and the lakes. Hikers will be transported by shuttle, on a daily basis, to departure points and back to our accommodation after the day’s hike. All the cabins at the Wilderness Bushcamp are well equipped with comfortable beds and bedding, a bar fridge, microwave oven, TV and in some cases even a fire place.
